Probiotic yogurt molecules may calm inflammatory storm seen in COVID patients
Comments
Abstract
Molecules isolated from probiotic-packed yogurt could have application as drugs suitable for addressing a range of inflammatory conditions, including the immune response seen in COVID-19 patients, the so-called “cytokine storm.” This discovery comes from the work of researchers Orit Malka and Raz Jelinek, from Ben-Gurion University, who point out that we are facing “the first demonstration that the virulence of human pathogenic bacteria can be mitigated by molecules secreted in probiotic dairy products, like yogurt or kefir ”.
