Red TecnomiFood to invest €4 million in optimising the industrial development and innovation of functional foods and nutraceuticals using omic technologies
Over the next three years the Red TecnomiFood consortium is to spend nearly €4 million on a coordinated strategy to optimise the industrial development of foods, functional ingredients and nutraceuticals using omic technologies, which encompass research areas with enormous potential in personalised nutrition.
The Red TecnomiFood is an accredited Cervera Centre of Excellence and led by the Eurecat technology centre’s Nutrition and Health Unit and Omic Sciences Unit, a mixed R&D unit made up of specialists from Eurecat and Rovira i Virgili University (URV). It also includes the AZTI Foundation, Ainia, the National Centre for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA) and the National Association of Canned Fish and Seafood Manufacturers – National Technical Centre for the Preservation of Fish Products (ANFACO-CECOPESCA).
“Using omic sciences in the food industry is essential to innovate in new products and better understand the impact they have on health”, says Dr Antoni Caimari, the Director of the Network and Eurecat’s Biotechnology Division. “This is down to the current trend towards personalising nutritional recommendations to promote health, the maintenance and optimisation of physiological functions and prevent disease”.
