Twin study suggests microbial influence on food allergies
Comments
Abstract
Healthy and allergic twins have different fecal microbial profiles, adding weight to the idea that the microbiome may play a protective role in food allergies, according to a new study by the University of Chicago and Stanford University.
Most of the bacteria whose abundance varies significantly belonged to the Clostridia class. In addition, healthy twins showed an enrichment in the metabolic pathway for diacylglycerol and in two bacteria: Phascolarctobacterium faecium and Ruminococccus bromi.
